STORY

You play as an archaeologist and inventor who stumbled upon the discovery of a lifetime: Deep in a treacherous mountain range, you found a cavern. It seems nobody has ever been there, it was untouched by humanity. You were eager to explore it, and upon doing so you found the most unbelievable sight...An ancient alien shipwreck! You carefully make your way into the weathering spacecraft. There were no signs of life, but you felt a chill, a presence...

You quickly gathered some of the technology that was immediately around you and left.

After a long trek back you took the samples into your personal lab to study them. They seemed to draw power from another dimension. After months of research and development, you use the technology of your time and your intellect to create a device that can rewind moments of time. You hoped to create a more sophisticated device; but realize you need more material to do so. Your thirst for knowledge and innovation led you back to the area where you originally found the shipwreck, although this time, something seemed different…

CONCEPT

This is a submission for the Brackey's 2020.2 Game Jam! For the theme "rewind" I decided to make a 2D-platformer where you can rewind the game, and create a move set / upgrades based around that alone. Instead of giving the player different weapons and a suite of moves, I just gave the player basic movement, a swing/slash attack, and the ability to travel backwards in time by a limited amount. At first the moves may not seem like a lot, but the time travel offers a lot of versatility, and I feel like we barely got to explore it. Let me know what you think in the comments and what can be improved.

Good job :) You can try to add coyote time to platformers and build the level using metrics. Sometimes player has little room to movement or has to go to the beginning of the level to overcome an obstacle if he fell. That's difficult to do on Jam, but if you have more time, it will be great to try these new things.

Thank you for the suggestions! Appreciate it since I'm trying to make this a really solid platformer. I am going to update the game in about a week or so to polish it off. I haven't heard of coyote running before, but I looked it up and seemed like it would really improve the feel and remove so many annoying mistakes during play-through so I'm adding it now. I've also been working on the level design a bit since it was obviously rushed. Making sure enemies aren't anywhere you can't fairly fight them, platforms are evenly spaced out and aren't in the way, and shrinking hit boxes a bit. Learning a lot with this one, its been a great experience!

I really love the game art style and also the attack, which let's the player "stay" a bit longer in the air :) However there are some enemies (like the slimes at the beginning) which don't fit in the overall game style.

But overall it's a nice little game ^^

Thank you! I'm glad you like the attack, that's something I like to add to platformers, especially (in this case) when you only have a melee attack and nothing else. Am also glad to hear you like the art style! Means a lot since so much effort went into it. As for the slimes/enemies in general they were actually supposed to be frog/alien creatures, but due to the time constraint the programmer(me) had to improvise hahah. We will definitely update the game to round it off in the near future, had fun making it. Thanks again!
